Damian Oldfield

Born: September 1974, Leeds, England

Died: 24 April, 2008, Bexley Place, Harehills, Leeds, England

Age: 33

Cause of death: Throat slit and repeatedly stabbed by Anthony Morley.

Notable because: Went on a date with former Mr Gay UK Anthony Morley, which ended badly when his throat was slit and parts of his body turned into a meal for his cannibalistically curious former friend.

Damian Oldfield was an advertising salesman on a Leeds-based magazine called Bent when he met up one night with Anthony Morley (36) a former Mr Gay UK, at a property in the Harehills area of Leeds on the 24 April 2008. He was killed there by Morely in a knife attack. Police said that part of his right leg had been cut out and pieces of diced meat were discovered in pot on a kitchen stove. Forensic tests on the meat showed it to be human.

Morley was found guilty following a two week trial at Leeds Crown Court where he admitted to killing Damian Oldfield but denied murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility, and was sentenced to a minimum 30 years.

Police discovered the body of Damian Oldfield at a property on Bexley Place, Harehills in the early hours of Thursday 24 April after Morley had walked into a local takeaway establishment saying he had killed someone.

Detective Inspector Scott Wood from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said: "I hope that today's murder conviction brings some closure to Damian Oldfield's family who have acted with the upmost dignity throughout the investigation and subsequent trial. "Thankfully disturbing crimes of this type remain incredibly rare events. None of the investigation team has been involved in a crime of this nature before.

"Our sympathies remain with the family and friends of Damian Oldfield."

Damian was not only my son he was also my best friend.                                    Anthony Francis Morley

We shared a special bond, which I can still feel, but now I'm only left with memories and that's not good enough

Damian loved life and he has had that taken away from him in the cruellest of circumstances.

He was so easy going and friendly that to know Damian for five minutes was to know Damian as friend.

http://caosblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/gayukfree_468x361.jpgDamian always made a big impression on those who knew him and I have been very touched by all the messages that have been left on the Gone Too Soon and Facebook websites. It's testament to Damian's popularity that school friends as well those who knew Damian more recently have left messages.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who stood up and spoke for Damian as well as those whose messages of support have been such a comfort to both me and my family.

I would also like to thank the police for their help in bringing those responsible for Damian's death to justice and say a special thank you to Lisa from Victim Support as well as Chyvonne and Jane who have been invaluable friends to me in what has been the darkest period of my life.

Damian will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Gran, older brother Craig and sister-in-law Tracy as well as all his nieces and nephews will miss his smile and his company.
