Paul Kruger

Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger

Born: October 10, 1825, Bulhoek, Eastern Cape

Died: July 14, 1904, Clarens, Switzerland

Age: 78

Cause of death: Cardiac failure.

Notable because: The Kruger Rand is named after him, the Kruger Park was named after him, and he died in 1904 still believing that the Earth was flat. Claimed to have only ever read one book. The Bible.

Paul Kruger and fondly known as Oom Paul (Afrikaans for "Uncle Paul") was State President of the South African Republic (Transvaal). He gained international renown as the face of Boer resistance against the British during the South African or Second Boer War (1899-1902).
